Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a sweet Christmas and that you're enjoying spending a lot of time in your P.G's, I know I am! This lay-out shows how versatile wallet size pictures are,they allow four pictures to tell the story without being "overcrowded" and still leave plenty of room for patterned papers and embellies. When it comes to pictures, size D0ES matter!



Derniere semaine de l'annee...c'est fou, non. En meme temps, j'aime bien cette periode,entre deux reveillons,les enfants jouent avec leurs jouets, les parents...jouent avec leurs jouets; tout le monde est bien occupe et plus stresse, oui, c'est douillet. Alors sans aucun enchainement, voici une page faite sur le spectacle de fin d'annee de la classe de Gallianne Lily. La taille des photos que l'on utilise a beaucoup d'importance, en general, lorsque l'on commence une page avec des photos, si on ne choisit pas la "bonne" taille, c'est l'equilibre de la composition qui sera fausse.La taille "porte-feuille" est en cela extremement versatile, j'en tiens pour exemple cette page: quatre photos, du papier fantaisie, un tampon et voila, l'histoire est dite et l'ensemble reste "clean".

TUTO. FOR PAPER ORNEMENT

My Little Yellow Bicycle has a kit to make these paper ornements in the Sharon Ann Christmas Magic collection. I rounded the corners of the top one and added beads on both.

My Little Yellow Bicycle a un kit pour realiser ces "boules" que l'on peut trouver dans la collection Sharon Ann Christmas Magic. J'ai arrondi les coins de celle du haut et rajoute quelques perles.

The ornement is made of six squares, on three of them I added a school picture of each child and on the fourth side I used a Quikutz alpha ( Chemistry ) to write "2008".

Sur 3 des 6 faces j'ai colle une photo d'ecole des enfants et pour la 4eme j'ai utilise Quickutz ( Chemistry ) pour "2008"

I wanted to keep on making some when I was finished and so I thought about my mega Marvy scalloped punch ( 2 1/2 in. ) and made a few. I liked the result and thought I'd put together a little tuto. just in case you have nothing else better to do on Christmas eve?!


Apres avoir fini ces deux la j'avais envie de continuer et j'ai pense a mon Mega Marvy pour en realiser d'autres dont celui-ci:

Supplies to make the ornement shown above:
Fournitures pour la realisation de la boule carree (!):



STEP 1
Fold each corner of each 6 squares toward the center and adhere a sticker or picture in the center ( optional ) ~ Plier chaque coin de chaque carre vers le centre et coller un embellie.
STEP 2:
Choose two squares for your top and bottom and make a hole in the center ~ Choisir 2 carres ( un pour le haut, l'autre pour le bas ) et faire un petit trou au milieu de chacun.

STEP 3:
Start adhering each side to each other ~ commencer a coller chaque extremite:

STEP 4:
when all sides are glued,you should have something like this ~ une fois chaque cote colle, vous obtenez une forme comme celle-ci:

STEP 5:
Fold your ribbon in two and thread it through the hole of the top square. Adhere each side ~ Pliez votre ruban en deux et le passer dans le trou du carre du haut. Coller chaque cote:

Thread the ribbon through the bottom piece and adhere each side ~ Passer le ruban dans le trou du carre du dessous et coller ls cotes:

STEP 7:
Now you can add some beads ~ Vous pouvez ajouter des perles:

I made smaller ones but the smaller the trickier! J'en ai fait des plus petits mais plus le carre est petit plus il est difficile a bien plier:

RFF WINNER & SILVER CARDS

The winner of the 2nd RFF is Busir. Bravo et je n'ai meme pas fait expres! Busir won a set of acrylic stamps from My LYB "Love Letters"which will soon be released for Valentine's Day.
Today, I made these cards for the ongoing Hero Arts challenge. They have some very cool sketches for both cards and lay-outs and you have until December 28Th to participate ( you can find more by clicking on their link in the right side-bar)

J'ai fait ces trois cartes pour le challenge de Hero Arts. Vous pouvez en apprendre davantage en cliquant sur leur site ( en bas a droite ). LAST BATCH ~ DERNIERE FOURNEE !

The snow storm was on its way when I started making these cards, Gabrielle Rose joined me and we spent our evening mixing matching the papers, ribbons, eyelets, embellies to the sound of Christmas music. We had a lovely sweet simple time just the two of us, mother and daughter, "making stuff" with love for friends and family. I truly hope you too can experience some real Christmas time making "stuff" with your loved ones, the perfect antidote to stress in my book!

La tempete de neige approchait lorsque j'ai commence a faire cette derniere fournee de cartes et puis Gabrielle a decide de me donner un coup de main. Nous avons tourne la manivelle,decoupe, colle, en ecoutant des chants de Noel. C'etait simple et beau, ce que je vous souhaite de pouvoir faire pendant ces vacances car pour moi c'est simplement ca NOEL!

CHALLENGE C & S LIFE

There's a fun challenge on C & S Life which is to make something using: Kraft paper + gold + chocolate brown + a star. I added a bit of pink to it and made these cards:

Voici mon interpretation du challenge de C & S Life . Il fallait realiser une creation avec du Kraft, des paillettes or, du marron chocolat et la forme d'une etoile. Sur la 1ere photo, on voit bien 2 techniques d'embossing: a sec pour le papier rose et a chaud pour la poudre doree sur l'oiseau.

My second interpretation of the challenge is this tag made using a stamp from Florilege. I heat-embossed the gold powder for this example just like the bird on the card. The 3-D glue dots give the tree extra dimension.

Cette etiquette est ma 2eme creation pour le challenge. Le tampon ( offert par ma Maman, et oui, encore! ) vient de Florilege, j'ai chauffer la poudre or pour lui donner plus de dimension et toujours dans la meme idee, j'ai utilise des coussinets 3-D pour coller le petit sapin. Merci, j'espere que vous irez faire un petit tour chez C & S Life que je trouve tres prometteur.

Ain't I lucky?! This beautiful 2009 Calendar was in my mailbox yesterday evening! Yep, made just for me by my talented friend Nathalie. She used the December kit from Transparent Touches...I can't get tired of admiring it which is a good thing because it's going to be displayed on my desk for twelve months!

Trop de chance! Dans la serie "tresors fait main" j'ai la chance d'avoir recu cette magnifique surprise hier soir: un calendrier fait rien que pour moi par ma scropine Nathalie. Elle a utilise le kit de Decembre de Transparent Touches pour le realiser. Je ne me lasse pas de l'admirer, ces teintes si douces, pleines d'espoir et de renouveau pour la nouvelle annee, cette mise en page si "clean"...merci Nathalie! J'ai vraiment beaucoup de chance!

Et puis vous vous souvenez peut-etre du lien pour la realisation de petits patins a glace en feutrine que j'avais fait passer il y a quelques jours? Busir les a fait et regardez comme ils sont trop mimi:

"You're a mean one Mr. Grinch " has become Lily's favorite Christmas song...I love the lyrics, she's learning so much vocabulary thanks to them! Hip Hip Hooray for Dr Seuss! Le premier morceau que vous entendez n'est pas du tout connu en France mais est super drole et une reference incontournable aux E.U, extrait de Dr. Seuss, ce monstre vert veut voler Noel, les paroles sont riches et lily a totalement flache dessus...bonne ecoute!

Hello and Happy Monday to you. There is a new French site of C & S scrapbooking called Le Scrap C & S Tout Simplement for which I was asked to make a page after Circee's sketch . I'll keep you informed as to when Ingrid will publish my interview but for now here is my interpretation of it.

Bonjour a toutes. Un nouveau site de scrap a vu le jour, il a ete concu par Ingrid et s'appelle Le Scrap C & S tout simplement. Celle-ci m'a demandee si je voulais bien etre interwievee et faire une page reprenant le sketch de Circee , je ne sais pas quand l'interview passera mais en attendant voici donc ma version , tres fidele car pourquoi complique un sketch parfait. En esperant que tout ce verre ne vous fasse pas voir rouge...et quand bien meme puisque c'est Noel! ( vert...rouge vous me suivez toujours? hahaha! )

Hime en esperant que le facteur ne perde pas celui-la tu as gagne un Post It Booklet fait de mes blanches mains, ainsi qu'un set d'attaches parisiennes toutes pailletees ( argent, blanc,vert clair, vert sapin et ton favori sans doute : rouge!) A toutes les autres et si on remettait ca la semaine prochaine, oui, bon, Hime tu compteras pour du beurre au prochain tirage, ok?!

YIN & YANG

Well the pictures are not that great, but I still had fun playing with the very feminine Noteworthy line from Making Memories for a lay-out about my father-in-Law's 80 Th birthday.
( thus the title of the post, sorry, couldn't resist!)

Les photos ne sont pas terribles mais bon, il fallait bien couvrir l'evenement qui etait de taille puisqu'il s'agissait des 80 ans de mon beau-pere. Et puis c'est vrai que j'aime bien "jouer" donc utiliser une ligne aussi feminine que celle de Making Memories ( Noteworthy ) pour un sujet masculin etait tres amusant.



I'm very proud of myself for using the scraps I had left to make two cards!
C'est pas l'esprit scrap ca? Utiliser des restes de scrap pour faire 2 cartes!

PAIN D'EPICES ( in French )

Pour Chrystelle et toutes les autres scropines que j'ai negligees en n'ecrivant pas la traduction de l'incontournable Pain d' Epices hier soir...

recette de madeleine Lecat ( Dijon ) extraite du livre de Julian more, "A Taste of Burgundy" et traduite de l'anglais.

Ingredients:
125g. de miel
125g. de sucre
300ml de lait
1 oeuf
1 c. a cafe de cannelle
1 sachet de sucre vanille
250g. de farine
1 c. a cafe de bicarbonate de soude
morceaux d'oranges confites ( en des )
beurre pour graisser le moule

1. Allumer le four a 200C
2. Mettre le lait, le sucre et le miel dans une casserole et chauffer jusqu'a ce que les sucres soient bien dissouts ( 5 minutes )Laisser refroidir.
3. Battre l'oeuf, ajouter la cannelle et la vanille puis le melange lait.
4. Dans un grand bol melanger la farine au bicarbonate de soude.
5. Verser le melange liquide sur celui de la farine et bien melanger.
6. Ajouter les ecorces d'orange.
7. Beurrer le moule ( vous pouvez aussi utiliser des moules en silicone ou/et des petits moules avec une jolie forme tellement joli et pratique pour emporter comme gouter!)
8. Verser la pate dans le moule et cuire environ 1hr. Tester en y glissant la lame d'un couteau, le pain d'epice pret est bien bronze et sonne creux!

PAIN D'EPICES & TEACHERS'GIFTS

The pain d'Epices is a spicy honey bread that originated in Dijon ( Burgundy ). One could say it is to France what apple-pie is to the USA. It's simple has no butter or oil, it stays delicious for days and days and everybody loves it. It's sliced and eaten just like a piece of bread with a little bit of butter but it can also be baked in muffin molds.
I still like to eat it the way Mom would prepare it for the 10 o'clock snack: a slice of buttered Pain d'Epices slapped onto a generous slice of pain Poilane! YUMMY!
So, as I was making this batch with Gabrielle, I thought I'd share the recipe with you.

My source for the recipe is the amazing book A TASTE OF BURGUNDY by Julian More which I highly recommend and as of today you can get a used copy at Better World for less than $5.00. Well worth it!

4 oz/ 125 g./ 1/3 cup honey
4 oz/ 125 g. 1/2 cup sugar
10 fl. oz/300ml/ 1 1/2 cups milk
1 egg
1 tsp ground cinnamon
vanilla
8 oz / 250 g. /2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
pinch finely grated range peel
butter for the loaf pan
Preheat the oven to 400F / 200C/ Gas mark 6.
Simmer the honey, sugar and milk for 5 minutes, stirring until the honey and sugar dissolve.
Combine the honey mixture with the egg, cinnamon and vanilla sugar.
Combine the flour and baking soda in a large bowl, then add the spicy mixture to it with the orange peel. Butter the loaf pan and spoon in the mixture. Bake for 1 hour, until the tip of a knife comes out clean when inserted in the centre.



Just to let you know, I always multiply the recipe by 4 so I have enough for the teachers' and for ourselves. The adorable stamp here is from Florilege Design, a gift from my Mama Noel! Merci Maman.xxx

N.B: Busir is right, there is nothing better than the mariage: Pain D'Epices & Fois Gras and since the ban on it has been lifted you know what to bring if you come to Chicago!

UNUSUAL

This card is for Severine's challenge which was to make something for the Holidays using a different color scheme than the traditional red-white-green. It was so cold here this past week-end I had to play with these warm colors.

Petite carte pour repondre au challenge de Severine qui etait de faire une creation pour les Fetes en utilisant des couleurs autres que le vert-blanc-rouge. Merci a Severine qui nous donne toujours de bonnes idees!

STOCKING STUFFER

As promised, I'm back with my idea of a good stocking stuffer: a cute, practical, different and homemade... Post-It Booklet! These are so easy to make, here is a list of what you need:

-Post It
-a glue gun ( or some heavy duty adhesive)
-a piece of paper
-some embellies ( a stamped image, an initial, a tag, some ribbon...)
- Scotch Reclosable Fasteners ( = velcro, mine are from 3M, I highly recommend these guys! )

First, measure your Post-It, mine is a 3" square. You need a strip of paper that is 3" wide. For the length = twice the 3' square + twice the thickness of the post it pad ( 1/2 " here )+ 2" to close. The glue gun comes into play to glue the top part of the pad to the booklet. I think you get a clearer idea by looking at the picture above but if you have any questions, don't hesitate!

La traduc., c'est par ici! Vous etes toujours la les scropinettes? Voici donc une idee de cadeau tout mimi dont tout le monde a besoin : un Porte Post-it! J'ai trouve ces Velcros 3M absolument geniaux, c'est fou tout ce que l'on peut faire avec ces petites bestioles...
Donc l'idee est de commencer par mesurer son bloc de Post It. Le mien faisait 8 cm. On coupe une bande de papier de 8 cm de large. La longueur = 2 fois les 8cm + 2 fois l'epaisseur du bloc + quelques centimetres pour le rabat ( plus le rabat est grand, plus on peut l'agrementer ).
N'hesitez pas a me poser vos questions si vous en avez. Aller, une derniere petite image pour la route!

ON HER LIST

On Wednesday, I asked Gallianne Lily to draw a picture for Santa describing him all the things she wanted him to bring her. While I'm keeping her drawing for the December Diary Album, I wrote down her list and took a picture of her right after she was finished. Here is the translation of her list:
- a costume of Snow White ( which Santa cannot find any where! :( )
- a bag for the Only Hearts Club
- a Polly Pocket
- a shower for the Polly Pockets ( ?! )
- a Doll House ( got that one! )
I find this transparency quite delicate and love the instant effect on the L.O.

Mercredi, j'ai demande a Gallianne Lily de faire un dessin pour le Pere Noel et de lui montrer tout ce qu'elle voulait qu'il lui apporte.le dessin sera incorpore dans l'album de Decembre donc j'ai retranscrit la liste pour le texte de cette page. Sur la photo ci-dessous, on voit mieux le "transparency" que je trouve tres delicat et festif. Toutes les fournitures sont de My Little Yellow Bicycle sauf la feuille blanche qui est de Bazzill.

WHY NOT WEDNESDAY 3

Today, I'd like to show you a super quick project to use all these tiny pieces of paper you can't bear throwing away! To make these magnetized clips you need:
- clothe pins
- small flat magnets ( @ craftstores )
- pieces of p.p and embellies
- white or collage glue ( a personal favorite: Golden Gel Medium )
- a small brush
and voila, now that my fridge is covered with these "snow flake clips" I'm all ready for your Christmas cards!;-)

Ca vous dit un petit " Pourquoi pas?" comme ca vite fait, histoire d'utiliser tous ces petits bouts de papiers que vous n'avez pas le coeur a jeter? Voici ce que j'ai utilise:
- pinces a linges en bois
- petits aimants plats ( a coller derriere chaque pinces )
- papiers et embellies
- colle blanche
- petit pinceau
Voila mon refrigerateur tout pret pour accueillir toutes vos petites cartes!;-)

WELCOME DECEMBER!

It was all white when we woke up this morning! Can you still see the skyline behind the geese?
When I was a little girl,every December my Mom would have an Advent calendar for us. Most of them had "fairy dust" around the doors that glowed in the dark and I remember how excited I'd get when it was time to open the last one, not just because it meant Christmas was here but also because the 25th always had a double-door that hid a bigger picture!
I've kept the tradition with our children but this is only the second year I actually "make" one.There's a message instead of a treat in each box. The idea being to live the Christmas Spirit, sometimes the message is a treat for each of them such as "each of you will pick a movie you'd like the family to watch over the holidays" or "breakfast in bed on Saturday",sometimes the note will say:"write down a precious souvenir you share with a member of your family and surprise that person by tucking your note in his/her coat pocket".
How about you? How do you start the Holiday Season? What traditions do you celebrate?

C'etait si joli cette neige ce matin, specialement commandee pour le 1er decembre! Ces oies canadiennes passent l'hiver au bord du Lac michigan, le long du canal ou de la riviere. Elles apportent une petite touche " folk art " a la ville que j'aime beaucoup.
Revenons-en au calendrier. Qui dit 1er decembre dit calendrier de L'Avent et comme ces calendriers representent un tres beau souvenir de mon enfance, je perpetue la tradition mais avec un petit " twist" comme on dit en americain : au lieu d'avoir une image ou un chocolat , les enfants decouvrent des messages. Ceux-ci peuvent etre une recompense comme ils peuvent egalement les appeler a faire un beau geste vis a vis d'un membre de la famille ou d'une connaissance.
Et vous? Que faites vous en ce debut de decembre pour vous mettre dans le "Christmas Spirit"?
