hello my name is alexandra and i'm a stamp addict.
i should have shared the inside pages of my December Daily
i wanted to finish the journaling and show you my Halloween mini album
i had planned on doing a Q&A post
i should have been all caught up in my PL
i 'd like to share some thoughts on the two Project Life i have conducted this year and what my plans are for 2013.
i've thinking about my little word for the new year and i'm excited to report that i have found the one!
i wanted to make a batch of cookies and prepare a yummy Bolognaise sauce for tonight's dinner.
i also have a stash of  30 toilet rolls because i was going to make this cool Advent calendar project i had in my mind! that and so many other things but instead...

i got side-tracked
big time!
but it's not my fault.
ever since i tried that carving thing right before Thanksgiving, i have been wanting to try new things...to get better...i'm getting a better feel for the tool in my hand...i have a long way to go but i thank you for being so enthusiastic about this little adventure. If anything, it'll have reminded me that it is okay to get side-tracked to pursue another creative path. Yes, the other stuff might not be ready but i'm going to tackle them with a renewed energy! I look forward to all the "stuff" i have made with these little guys...

je pensais faire des biscuits (le beurre est bien ramoli depuis hier soir il est sur le comptoir!) et puis une bonne sauce Bolognaise pour le dîner!
je ne vous parle même pas de la collection de rouleaux papier WC que je garde depuis des mois dans l'idée de faire un super calendrier de l'Avent!
au lieu de tout ça, j'avoue...

je me suis laissée distraire.
et pas qu'un peu!
mais ce n'est pas de ma faute
depuis que j'ai commencé cette histoire de creusage de gomme peu avant Thanksgiving, je veux essayer de nouvelles choses...de progresser déjà et puis je commence à mieux sentir l'outil dans la main...j'ai encore du chemin mais vos encouragements me portent aussi et je vous en remercie. J'aurais au moins eu la confirmation qu'il est parfois très sage de se laisser distraire, que dis-je "emporter" par un élan créatif. Biensur, ce qui n'est pas fait reste à faire mais je vais attaquer tout cela avec une énergie nouvelle! J'ai hate de partager tous les petits trucs réalisés avec ces tampons sortis de mon imagination...
Je vous souhaite un bon vendredi soir, novembre fut un mois très enrichissant!

hand-carved stamps(2) - "crisscross" cards

➸ "criss-cross apple sauce" she kept repeating. So much so, that my carving tool found itself moving freely in a criss-cross motion on the surface of that tiny piece of eraser i had left..."criss-cross apple sauce"...

➸ "criss-cross apple sauce", elle est revenue de l'école... elle répète cette petite phrase inlassablement "criss-cross apple sauce", je souris et je sens l'outil glissé sur la gomme rose... "criss-cross apple-sauce"...de toutes facons, il ne me restait que ce petit bout, "criss-cross apple-sauce" et puis je ne le garderai surement pas..."criss-cross" sur la gomme...voilà, ça y est, c'est moi qui le dit, c'est elle qui sourit...

➸ so i thought, let's just stop there and stamp it onto the black ink..."criss-cross apple sauce"...i see trees, lots of Christmas trees, up and down and if I leave a space between the two stamped images, i have room to say something else besides "criss-cross apple-sauce"...

➸ je me suis dit, voilà, on s'arrête là, on l'encre, histoire de voir si le moment est toujours magique... il est toujours magique, même quand on a fait n'importe quoi, et d'ailleurs on ne devrait jamais dire que l'on a fait n'importe quoi... je vois des sapins, la tête en haut bien comme il faut, et la tête en bas, pourquoi pas. Ils me soufflent de laisser un espace entre les deux images tamponnées...tu pourrais y glisser un message, une petite phrase ou un seul mot...

➸ and that's what i did, and that's how it came to be... meet "criss-cross", a silly stamp that brought me joy.
➸ et c'est ce que j'ai fait et c'est comme ça qu'il est né... voici "criss-cross", un petit tampon sans prétention qui m'amuse et me fait faire plein de cartes...

alexandra's Sunday scrapbook with Penny Black - Thanksgiving

Hello and welcome to another edition of alexandra's Sunday scrapbook with Penny Black inc. Today, I'm combining some patterned paper from the Madison collection together with direct stamping onto the kraft page. Penny Black's all over pattern slapstick/Cling is  the perfect stamp to showcase a family picture. I have a sketch and a step by step. Put the kettle on and let's scrap!


Bonjour chères Scropines! Comme chaque fin de semaine, je vous propose une page Penny Black que vous pouvez très bien adapter à vos propres fournitures. En ce week-end de Thanksgiving, j'avais à coeur de scrapper une photo de notre petite famille. J'ai utilisé un tampon de fond qui s'appelle "all over pattern" que je trouve parfait pour illustrer le thème de la famille.  En mélangeant un morceau de papier de la collection Madison et une impression cuivre à même la feuille de fond, on obtient un joli contraste...de la ficelle et des feuilles séchées pour le mouvement...  Je vous propose un croquis et un pas à pas.  On se fait un thé? ça vous dit de scrapper?...

I stamped the slapstick with a copper colored ink and heat embossed it with copper colored embossing powder. To make sure the surface stays very clean,  I covered the space where I wasn't going to stamp with pieces of draft paper.

L'encre et la poudre à embosser sont de couleur "cuivre". Avant de tamponner, j'avais pris soin de protéger les autres parties de la page avec des feuilles de brouillon.

To adhere the dried leaves, I simply taped their stems with a piece of tape.
Pour fair etenir les feuilles séchées, j'ai simplement scotché les tiges.

Before I adhered the photo, I printed the date on the tag.
Avant de coller la photo, j'ai imprimé la date sur le tag.

and "voilà!" i hope this has given you some ideas and that you are having a very warm week-end.

Thanksgiving 2012 - a new stamp THANKFUL

It was as we wanted it to be. Warm, stress free, colorful and full of laughters. Inspired by this pin, I drew a tree on a 6x12 sheet of white bristol and each member of our little family picked a color of ink and stamped their index finger on it. In the Project Life, it goes...

C'était un parfait Thanksgiving. Doux, sans stress, coloré et plein de rires. Inspirée par ce pin, j'ai dessiné un arbre sur une feuille de bristol 15x30 et chaque membre de notre petite famille a choisi une couleur d'encre et y a tamponné son index. Glissé dans une pochette Becky Higgins, il est déjà ajouté au Project Life...

Thanks to my Mom, we followed this awesome craft. Lily painted it with much care the night before. I also participated in this cool project...
Grace à ma Maman, nous avons suivi ce super bricolage. Lily l'a peint consciencieusement hier soir. J'ai aussi participé à ce projet...

THIS IS...a new adventure - ♥ carving my own stamps ♥

last week, I finally opened this kit I had purchased months ago...
la semaine dernière, j'ai enfin ouvert ce kit acheté il y a plusieurs mois déjà...

i don't know why...i wanted to start with these two words... i printed them on a piece of vellum, trace the letters onto the eraser...
je ne sais pas pourquoi mais je voulais commencer par ces deux mots..."ceci est"ou "voici"...je les ai imprimés sur une feuille de papier calque puis tracer à l'envers sur la gomme...

then i started to carve the eraser so that the letters would appear...
puis j'ai commencé à creuser la gomme...les lettres sont apparues petit à petit...

this step, the first time the stamp is inked, is magical...
cette étape, la première fois que l'on tamponne sa gomme évidée dans l'encre, est magique...

learning to enjoy accept imperfections is also part of the process...
apprendre à apprécier accepter les imperfections fait partie du processus...

in gold letters...on a beautiful Fall afternoon...why not?
en lettres d'or...par un bel après-midi d'automne...pourquoi pas?

why stamp only on paper when Nature gives you the best canvas?
les feuilles de papier sont bien pâlottes en comparaison de celles de la Dame Nature...

so many things to re-define...so many possibilities...
tant de choses à redéfinir...tant de possibilités...

it dawned on me that THIS IS... a new adventure...THIS IS... a new begining...
j'ai compris que CECI était une nouvelle aventure... un commencement...

PROJET 2012 - weeks40&41

WEEK40 / SEMAINE40

Still in love with Heidi Swapp's Vintage Chic Collection. I have said it before and I'll say it again, these tones soothe me...The page protector is 81/2 x 11 and I like how we can see a little bit of the WEEK38 sticking out there. About the collage of photos, I printed so that it would fill most of the two 6x4 slots.

J'aime toujours autant la collection Vintage Chic de Heidi Swapp. Je me répète, je sais, mais ces teintes me bercent...cette page est un format A4 américain et j'aime le fait que la page de la semaine 38 dépasse légèrement. Un des paradoxes de ce fameux PL, c'est que tout à beau être bien rangé dans sa case, les pochettes n'ont pas la même taille, pas le même format et la façon dont elles sont abordées est sans cesse renouvelée. J'ai coupé la mosaique de photos et traité les deux pochettes 10x15 comme s'il s'agissait d'une pochette 10x30.

WEEK41 /SEMAINE41

The week my Gabrielle Rose turned 19! I wanted to make sure she was very present on the page. I'm very thankful for the pictures she sends me! {hint-hint}. I changed hairdresser so I added their business card (bottom) and adhered the "41" smack in the center of the target but on the glassine bag. As I often do, I included a bit of world news + a picture of Felix after his jump from the stratosphere.

 les 19 ans de ma Grande, je tenais à ce que sa photo soit bien présente. J'ai changé de coiffeur et placé leur carte de visite dans un petit sac glassine. Le "41" est collé par-dessus l'enveloppe. Comme toujours, j'ai inclus quelques infos ainsi que la photo de Félix après son saut de la stratosphère.

Do you MOO? + my favorite pie recipe!

Hello dear Friends! Am I the only one who didn't know what a "MOO card" was? If like me, you have a soft spot for tiny things, MOO cards must be right up your alley! In the second part of this post, I share the recipe for Dorie Greenspan's Thanksgiving Twofer Pie, THE best pie EVER!

Non, non je ne suis pas tombée sur la tête et d'ailleurs si comme moi vous craquez pour tout ce qui est riquiqui, je crois que vous allez aimer ça...et puis dans ce billet, je partage la recette de Dorie Greenspan. Sa tourte pour Thanksgiving est absolument divine!

This week, I stumbled upon a very cool challenge blog called "MOO-MANIA". I had never heard of Moo mini cards before. As it turns out, Moo mini cards are mini calling cards, about half the size of a regular business card ( 2,8 x 7 cm) They usually have a photo or a design on one side and contact info. on the other.

Cette semaine, je suis tombée sur un blog MOO-MANIA de défis assez curieux pour quelqu'un comme moi qui n'avait jamais entendu parler de "cartes Moo". Après une petite recherche, il s'avère que ces cartes sont aussi des cartes de visites mais qui deux fois plus petites, c'est-à-dire qu'elles mesurent 2,8 sur 7 cm. En principe, elles ont une photo ou un dessin sur un côté et les infos sur l'autre face.

At MOO-MANIA, a new challenge is posted every other Wednesday and the on-going challenge this time around is *** Stars, Starlets *** so I decided to jump in, what wouldn't I do for Ryan?!!

Le blog MOO-MANIA propose un défi chaque deuxième mercredi du mois et cette fois-ci il s'agit de scrapper une toute petite carte sur le thème ***Stars, Starlets***alors, je n'ai pas pu resister! Ah! ce que me ferait faire ce sacré Ryan...pfff...

As we are entering Thanksgiving week here in the US, the first thing I'll be preparing is the dough for the pie. I thought I'd share Dorie Greenspan's Twofer, I've been making it for years now and, well, it's pretty incredible! (I told you i wrote in my recipe books ;-)

Nous débutons la semaine de Thanksgiving ici aux Etats-Unis (dernier jeudi de novembre) et comme chaque année, c'est bibi qui s'y colle! Je vais commencer dès lundi par la préparation de ma "pie"...je vous avez dit que j'écrivais dans mes livres de cuisine ;-)

alexandra's Sunday scrapbook - "Ombré" Technique

Welcome back to another edition of scrapbooking with Penny Black.  Today, we're taking the Ombré technique presented in this TUTORIAL and using it to create a layout with a step by step + a sketch. The stamp used is the same as in the tutorial (Penny Black Harmony # 40 - 170)


Comme chaque week-end, je vous propose une page réalisée à partir d'un produit Penny Black inc. Aujourd'hui, nous reprenons la technique "Ombré" (dégradé) présentée dans ce TUTORIEL ainsi que le tampon Harmony pour créer un pas à pas très simple...

Sur la photo du haut, on peut voir un gros plan de la carte "Ombré"que je vais utiliser pour la page de ce week-end qui s'intitule "Happy Day".

Here is a picture showing the very few supplies needed to put the page together but first, let's start with showing you the sketch.

Voici une photo des quelques fournitures nécessaires à la construction de la page mais commençons par le croquis sur laquelle cette dernière est basée.

step by step / pas à pas

1. I measured to make sure I'd place the two main elements of the foundation straight.
1. Tout d'abord, j'ai mesuré afin de placer les deux élèments principaux bien droit.

2. I adhered them to the page. (I prefer this type of adhesive as opposed to the liquid kind for I find that liquid adhesive almost always makes the cardstock wrinkle)
2. J'ai collé ces deux morceaux de papiers. (je préfère utiliser ce type d'adhésif qui, contrairement à la colle liquide, ne fait pas gondoler le papier)

3. I added some stitching along the yellow paper (Penny Black's Madison collection). Then some silk paper for texture and a touch of softness, the black and white picture (yep, these are my three babes!) and some embellies. The arrows direct the eyes toward the picture and the butterflies add some movements.

3. J'ai ajouté un point couture sur le contour du papier jaune (collection Madison de Penny Black inc.). Le papier de soie est placé sous la photo (oui, ce sont bien mes trois cocos sur la photo!) et dépasse un peu vers le haut. Cela ajoute texture et douceur à la page.  Ensuite, on place les décos, des flèches pour diriger le regard vers la photo et une envollées de papillons pour une idée de mouvement.
