alexandra's Sunday scrapbook - How to make an Instant Mini for Valentine's Day!

Hello hello there... are your ready to get your fingers dirty?  Today we are scrapping with Penny Black Inc. and we are making a mini album with only ONE sheet of paper! Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to make it for a loved one and use some stamps from Penny Black Inc's new collection.


The stamps used for today's project are / tampons utilisés aujourd'hui sont: 
slapstick/cling "fleur de Lys" #40-204; love chapter #30-163; uptown #40-191


Bonjour bonjour... prêtes à vous salir les doigts avec moi? Alors aujourd'hui, comme chaque week-end, je vous propose un projet conçu à partir des produits Penny Black Inc. et comme la St. Valentin est presque là, je me suis dit qu'un mini album fait d'une seule feuille 30*30 serait une bonne idée...

TUTORIAL

I. To make the structure / pour la structure du mini

It's difficult to see on the pictures but I started with a pale pink 12*12 sheet of paper. The idea is to ink the slapstick with the two shades of pink (I've inked the top 3/4 of the stamp with pale pink and the bottom with the darker shade) and stamp  + heat emboss with clear embossing powder the whole sheet of paper on both sides.

Ça ne se voit pas très bien mais la feuille 30*30 est rose pâle. L'idée est de tamponné toute la page des deux côtés avec ce tampon de fond. Pour obtenir un léger dégradé, vous pouvez utiliser deux nuances d'une même couleur. Embossez à chaud au fur et à mesure pour un meilleur résultat, ou si vous travaillez vite, embossez une fois la feuille toute tamponnée.

The next step, which could be forgone if you don't have any of these mist sprays or if you're in a hurry, is to spray the whole page with white paint. I like this effect because i think it unifies the stamping and it adds a lot of depth to the paper. (unfortunately, it is difficult to see on the pictures)

La prochaine étape que vous pouvez sautez si vous n'avez pas ces pschitts ou si vous êtes pressées, est de pschitter justement les deux côtés de la feuille avec un mist blanc. J'aime l'effet crée. Le pschitt permet d'unifier le travail effectué avec le tampon de fond et il crée un sens de profondeur. (effet qui est difficile à voir sur les photos malheureusement)

So the positive aspects about using a mist on top of the embossed paper is: depth, a visual interest.
The down side is that one has to seal it or it'll rub off. I've tried many things to avoid having to use that awful spray like using the mist first and then stamping but the result though interesting is completely different. The good thing about using a sealer is that it's going to make your mini extra sturdy!

Le pschitt appliqué sur la surface tamponnée et embossée, c'est bien pour l'effet que cela crée mais l'aspect nettement moins sympa, c'est que la couleur ne peut pas tenir. Il faut donc utiliser une bombe pour le fixer. J'ai essayé de pschitter d'abord et tamponner après afin de ne pas avoir à utiliser un fixateur mais d'une le pschitt ne tenait pas super et de deux, l'effet était différent. Ce qui a de bien, c'est qu'une fois fixée, votre feuille n'en sera que plus solide!

Here is how you burn your 12*12 sheet of paper...
Voici comment il vous faut marquer les plis (les mesures sont en pouces)

and then turn your paper and burn at 4" and then 8"...
puis tournez votre feuille et marquez les plis à 4, 8 pouces...

Cut just like on the picture below...
Coupez comme sur la photo ci-dessous...

This part is fun, folding the paper, flip the paper over and starting with the bottom left corner... here it comes... in an instant you'll ...
C'est partie est amusante, vos plis sont bien marqués mais pas trop fortement tout de meme pour ne pas se déchirer, ça va aller tout seul. Retournez la feuille et commencez en bas à gauche... dans une minute vous aurez ...

At this point your mini is really an accordion-mini. If you'd like to be able to consult it more like a book, place a piece of tape on the spine like I did below with the self adhesive piece of kraft...

A ce stade, votre mini est en fait un accordéon. Si vous préférez qu'il ait plus l'aspect d'un livre, collez une bande adhésive comme sur les photos ci-dessous...

2. To decorate your mini-album / pour décorer votre mini-album

To decorate the inside pages, I used the set of stamps called "love chapter" (#30-163). Added an envelope, a secret message, and a tag. The great thing is that you can "hid"more things by sliding additional notes or photos in between the pages of this mini!

To decorate the front cover, I used that adorable house which is part of a set called "uptown" (#40-191). I colored it with watercolors and fussy cut it. I used 3-D adhesive to adhere it to the cover. To keep the mini book nice and tight, I used some hemp string. The mini is for my hubby so I didn't want to overload it with too much cuteness but for a girl, I could really see a nice silk ribbon or some fancy twine...

Pour décorer la couverture, j'ai utilisé un tampon de la collection "uptown" (#40-191). Je l'ai peint à l'aquarelle, découpé puis collé avec des coussins adhésifs 3-D. Enfin pour fermer le mini, comme il est destiné à mon mari, j'ai choisi de la ficelle mais il aurait été joli avec un ruban de soie ou bien de la baker's twine de couleur...
