alexandra's Sunday scrapbooking - TUTO How to paint Leaves

Hello dear Friends! In honor of WORLD CARD MAKING DAY, I thought it would be fun to share a tutorial on how I use Faber Castell Gelatos and watercolor pencils to paint leaves.

**the set of stamps used for today's card is #30-138 Foliage Fancy**

Here is the finished card // Voici la carte finie
TUTO
I stamped the leaves on watercolor paper and broke a little bit of the Gelatos* I wanted to use on a plate. I mixed a little water with each color and covered each leaf with a wash of color.

Once the leaves were dry (I used a heat tool to speed up the process), I colored with the watercolor pencils and blended with a wet brush. I dried again and created more highlights with a tiny erasers.

Fussy cut each leaf and place on the black silhouettes to see how they'll look but do not glue them just yet!
I placed the kraft base on a piece of white cardstock with scalloped edges on each side and ran it into the sewing machine to give it a more polished look. Then I adhered that strip to the purple card and finished by adding the three painted leaves. To keep that "life-like" aspect, I only adhered the center of each leaf to its black silhouette.

I'm entering this card in the current CAS(e) this sketch!
Thank You! Merci!

*EDIT: the wash of color could also be done with your regular paintbox // ce lavis peut tout à fait tre réalisé avec un peu de peinture si vous n'avez pas de Gelatos.

Beautiful card Alexandra! Love how you used both gelatos and watercolor pencils! Sometimes, I forget that you can use more than one medium to color the stamp images. And I love how you used the silhouette stamps as well.

The golden autumnal colours work beautifully with the deep plum & kraft & I love how the white gives such a lovely interesting edging & echoes the serrated edges of the bottommost leaf. Placing the leaves on the silhouette is something I'd never have thought of but it's certainly very effective.

So loving your photos (no surprise) but this time they do a great job illustrating that you should be free to go outside the lines, especially when you're going to be fussy cutting it later. What a great result, with the shadows behind them! Love it, Alexandra!
